And they'll say "Andrew!" and I'll say "Yes?"

I just watched Garden State for the second time and it was once again phenomonal. I really liked Ian Holm's performance, though most of it was relegated to the deleted scenes (which I'm ridiculously glad were saved). And Natalie Portman's Sam is too adorable for words. I love the way the film shifts from comic to sensitive and back and forth. It's a credit to a first-time director that he can bring about such beauty and sadness coupled with genuinely funny humour.

I think this movie speaks to me for one particularly shallow reason, but I'm glad it's this movie and not some horribly random teen comedy or action "thriller". That reason is that the main character's name is Andrew. I've never seen a movie that sports an Andrew before, and I watch an unhealthy amount of movies. Although he was referred to as "Largeman" or just "Large" most of the time, when he was called Andrew it struck a chord. A chord played by a symphony. I got a jolt every single time. What an awful reason to like a movie, but it totally helped me be immersed in the character and his life.

I will eventually have to shell out the $25 or so and stop renting it. This one's a keeper.
