Dark Clouds, Silver Linings

I've been finding the silver linings lately in a few dark clouds. For example; Dark cloud: Nora chewed up a pen a while ago on a pair of pants. Silver lining: It was a black pair of pants, and the ink doesn't show up. Dark Cloud: Work was terrible tonight. Silver lining: With time and effort I can choose to have a sense of humour about it all.

I suppose the biggest dark cloud lately was that my grandfather died on Thursday the 20th. It was not unexpected nor was it sudden, but not prolonged so as my sis says, "It's sad, but it's not a tragedy." He was 91 years old, the father of five, grandfather of fourteen, great grandfather of twenty, great-great grandfather to one, a patriarch if nothing else. The silver lining? Rediscovering family. It's kind of cool that a person you vaguely recognize can come to you for comfort, even though you can't remember each other's names.

Well, may as well present some photo equations:

3 Days of Semi-Coordinated Madness!

Feet don't fail me now! (I hope I have the wherewithal to shout that someday when I'm running away from something. Like a ghost, or a mummy.)

I'm not mad, I'm just disappointed...

WHERE WERE YOU?!?!?!?!?

So I said, "Fine. I'll rock this ol' house my damn self!" But then Aimee Leonard showed up and I had a partner. Oliver Black played a kick-ass set to a surprisingly bare Townehouse tonight, and I had a blast!

At first I felt a little dumb showing up alone in an Oliver Black t-shirt (alone because everyone had to work, or was poor, or had an allergic reaction to dragons), but what that meant was that I got to hang out with the band for a while before the show. I came in and Serena (vocals) came up to me and said "Hey! The shirt!" So we chatted and I bought her a shot. Then Greg (bass) came over and we talked about how much the Laughing Buddha ruled and how the prostitutes on Elgin St. need to be more overt so fathers can say to their sons "That's a prostitute, my boy. You can buy sex from them." They both seemed pretty excited when I told then I had been in Welland a few days earlier.

The place was moderately full when I got there, but it turned out that most of the people were there for the openers, two local girls, one of whom played the saxophone. Have you ever been to a concert and felt like the band was playing just for you? Well, this time it was true. There were others, but I was the only one rocking out at the very front (until Aimee joined me and we were reunited in our singing along to "Where I Am")

The band played for a mere forty minutes, but I guess I can't blame them. There weren't that many people there and they have to be in Thunder Bay on Friday. I met Nick (guitar) and Allan (drums) after the show and what was cool was that they all remembered me from when they were in town two years ago. Woot! Anyhoo, for those of you who weren't there (ie/ all of you) here is a recreation of the night.

The night was eerie with the possibility of me feeling like an idiot as the only one there in an Oliver Black t-shirt. But then suddenly, everything went black and white...

Luckily the drum set snapped things back into colour.

Look out! Nick's tuning up! And he's artily lit! So Oliver Black took the stage at the Townehouse. There was rocking...

There was rolling...

There were leopard print stockings...

You can't hear it, but she's saying "grrrr...."

And for those of you for whom photos are not enough, some videos...

And then, just like that...

They were gone.

And on the way home.... I found a dollar!

Thanks Oliver Black!

Cause for & Means to Celebrate!

T- a few hours until the Oliver Black show at the Townehouse! Woot! Time to drink up the courage to get a picture with the band, and possibly purchase some swag! Ya-Hoo! Haven't been able to get in touch with anyone in a while, so I may be forced to make some new friends at the show.

IN OTHER NEWS...

HAPPY BIRTHDAY(S) STEPHINER WOOZELTON!

AND ALSO...

My guitar may have just become cooler than your guitar.

How did I kill time before the Old Shack?

My flippin' radio show got cancelled this week because there's something wrong with the transmittor! Damn it! I had the whole thing planned out too. Well, next week will be awesome, just you keep that in mind. And I'm counting tonight towards my 5 week probation, which means that next week will be the last time I'm not allowed to solicit requests or bring in my own muzak.

So in the mean time, I bring you something that's been around for a while, but I haven't done. Heres we goes!

Go to your website and list the last twelve people who have commented. If someone has commented twice, skip to the next new commenter.

Q: Have you ever kissed 6? Not as of 10:58 on July 13th, 2006. Who knows what 10:59 will bring?

Q: What's the best memory you have of 9? Hamlet!

Q: When's the next time you're gonna see 4? When we watch a sweet movie at a predetermined time.

Q: Is number 8 pretty? He's fiiiiiiiiine!

Q: What was your first impression of number 7? Cool, fun, talkative, hip.

Q: How did you meet 3? For all I know Jody is the girl from Grade one that I showed my underwear to. Let's go with that.

Q: Do you think 12 could kill someone? Under duress, he could be made to let a heavy light fall on a hapless crewman.

Q: Is 11 your best friend? Yes. I would die spiritually if Ol' Sphinxy and I were parted! (Ol' Sphinxy hates it when I call her that! It's one of our MANY inside jokes.)

Q: Have you seen 5 naked? I have yet to cross that off my "Things To Do Before I Die" list and move it over to my "Things to Do Again Before I Die" list. In short, no.

Q: Do you think 2 has a crush on you? Clearly Liz finds me abhorrant.

Q: What is the last thing you did with 6? Existed in the same province.

Q: Have you ever been to 3's house? No, but I imagine it's quite nice. In fact, I've never even been invited!

Q: Have you ever slept in the same bed as 9? I slept on her couch once!

Q: Do you think 5 is sexy? Kayla could not be sexier if she tried. Know why? Cause she's awesome. THAT's why, bitches!.

Q: When's the next time you'll see 10? The next time Hollywood comes to Sudbury.

Q: Are you real close to 4? Well, he lives in Falconbridge... But I've never had a man strip for me so enthusiastically.

Q: Have you ever kissed 1? One of the only two males on this list I haven't kissed! No, but I had a dream in which I kept making him uncomfortable by throwing my arm around him and saying "If I'm making you uncomfortable, I can stop doing this."

Q: Have you ever been to the movies with 8? Yeah! The other night!
Q: Have you ever gotten in trouble with 2? We've had group "talking to's" during Hamlet that would freeze your winnebago.

Q: What do you and number 10 talk about the most? You're looking at it.

Q: Do you even know 9? Intimately! She was my mother for a four month period.

Finished "Waiting for Godot" (again stunned me with it's uncanny portrayal of mankind's need to kid themselves) and I'm onto "The World According to Garp" (on loan from the Buchanan library). I'ma go do that now... since I won't have a show tonight.... RARG!

Jack White is a GOD, and Meg is a fun-lovin' demon.

Prospero's Album?

Thom Yorke's "The Eraser."

We've taken one (1) potential Radiohead album, and quadruple (4x) filtered it, to get rid of all those "other" particles. Particles like Selwayic, O-Brienian, and both varieties of Greenwood. The result? Nothing but Pure Yorke. Simpler, yet more complex at once, "The Eraser" is like a production of Macbeth starring only Macbeth. Sure you miss Lady Macbeth and the witches, but it's kind of cool to see it done without them. To sum up, it is the first album in recent years that will make you want to listen with headphones on and lights off.

Why "abbondanza"?

"I was at this great little restaurant called 'La Abbondanza'-"

"-*gasp* I love it there!"

"And of course 'La Abbondanza' is Italian for-"

(with accompanying hand gesture) "Affection."

"No, actually, It's 'abbundance'."

(with accompanying hand gesture) "Abbundance."

Whatever the case, watching the Italy/France game at the Caruso Club was a trip. Crazy Italians everywhere, tossing their babies in the air whenever Italy got an opportunity because y'know, the childrens are the future.

Take that you frog-leg eating, head-butting bastards! I always thought that guy looked kind of like a thug.

I quote a Get Fuzzy cartoon;

Bucky: I'm not crying! I never cry!

Rob: You cry when we're out of hot water. You cry when you have to cross the street. Dude, you cry more thana French soccer player.

Satchel: HA HA HA! That's funny because it's so impossible!

I would have felt a little better about the win if France's missed shot had actually been stopped by the keeper, rather than bouncing off the crossbar. I also would have liked Germany to make it to the final, but you can't have everything. Perhaps next time I will know more about the teams. Thank you Herr Simac! Gentleman & Scholar, that's you.

Does anyone else think the World Cup trophy looks like a "War of the Worlds" poster?

CTRL-D

I read a lot. Or a moderate amount anyways. In either case I have yet to start a book and not finish it. I think that says something. I know other people who read a lot also, and I've noticed that not many of them use a steady bookmark. I know there are all sorts of one which are designed to be used over and over again, made of metal and such, but I could never get into those. I tend to use a different bookmark on every book I read, but it doesn't have to be a "bookmark" bookmark. It's varied between things such as movie stubs, bits of string, pictures, sticky notes, blank pieces of paper, or the dust jacket. But I've outdone myself this time. Below is a picture of my latest bookmark.

I'm now using as a bookmark the last book I read. Good thing it wasn't "IT" or "Lord of the Rings" or even "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" or I'd have lost my place many times or have a thoroughly misshapen copy of Waiting for Godot.

Serena once said "good show" to me...

Sweet Jesus!

Oliver Mother-fucking Black is coming to the Townehouse in two weeks and one day! (July 19th)

I'll be there! My camera will be there! Random O.B. merchandise will likely be there! Will YOU be there?

Look at that! Are you going to just sit there and let them rock your socks off? Or are you going to get out there and let them know how much you appreciate it?!
